Chair Hip Rotation

  • Gentle
  • Seated
  • Hips
  • Stomach & waist

Starts at 16:57 in “Seated Exercises To Rid Tummy Fat For Good!”. The time is from YouTube's automatic chapters, so it may be a few seconds out.

What it is

Hands on your hips or knees, draw slow circles with your upper body. Loosens the hips and lower back.

How to do it

  1. Sit tall with feet flat, hands on your hips or knees.
  2. Lean your upper body slightly forward, then to one side.
  3. Continue round to lean slightly back, then to the other side.
  4. Make 5 slow circles, then change direction.

Key tip: Keep the circles small and smooth.

Who should skip it, and why

  • Your lower back is in a painful flare-up. Circling can irritate it. Try gentle Seated Weight Shifts instead.

Easier and harder versions

Easier
Rock forward and back only.
Harder
Make the circles a little bigger.

How much

In our videos each move runs for about 40 seconds with 20 seconds of rest. Start with less if you need to. Comfortable effort is the goal, not exhaustion.

Stop straight away and get help if you feel:
  • chest pain, pressure or tightness
  • dizziness, light-headedness or faintness
  • breathlessness that doesn't settle when you rest
  • sharp or joint pain, or pain that gets worse as you go
  • numbness, tingling, or a sudden severe headache

This is general exercise information, not medical advice. If you have a health condition, or you've had a fall, injury or surgery recently, check with your doctor or physiotherapist first.
